How it all started...
Back in the 1960's, the land you now know as Florence Springs was owned by the Ivy Tower Estate of St. Florence. The land was drained in an attempt to make it suitable for farming, however, it failed and was left for nature to reclaim it.
In the late 70’s, local farmer Hugh Davies purchased the land to expand nearby Heatherton Farm and, in 1992, Hugh and son Charles opened Heatherton Country Sports Park as part of the UK's Farm Diversification Grant Scheme.
In the early days, Heatherton offered a small number of country sports including fishing, archery, golf, horse riding and a driving range.
Expanding and diversifying...
A few years later Charles noticed a national newspaper advert for beautiful lodges with bi-fold doors and lake views. He got to thinking about the potential of expanding into accommodation at Heatherton; which had already grown to become a popular tourist attraction, adding fun activities like bumper boats and go karts.
The first steps were taken in 2012 when, with only a couple of glamping sites in Wales, Charles saw an opportunity and Florence Springs Glamping was born; starting out with just three yurts and a small number of camping pitches.
Then in 2014, planning was passed for the addition of luxury lakeside lodges and we welcomed our very first lodge guests in late 2016.
A thriving family business
Over the past 10 years we've used innovative ideas to diversify and expand both the activity and accommodation sides of the business. With Charles still at the helm, our family-run group now proudly combines:
• Award-winning Heatherton World of Activities, offering more than 25 fun family activities from bumper boats and high-speed go karts to our Tree Tops Trail and three thrilling Escape Rooms,
• Beautiful Florence Springs Glamping Village with our luxury treehouses, safari tents, Mongolian yurts, woodland hideaways and premium camping,
• Florence Springs Luxury Lakeside Lodges with 34 modern and stylish luxury lodges in an idyllic rural setting, each with its own private hot tub.
And with planning passed in 2022 for us to further extend our lodge site......watch this space for more exciting developments to come!
